Jesse McCartney has announced a 2020 Australian tour in a rare TV appearance.

The 32-year-old singer and former teen heartthrob appeared on The Today Show on Monday to announce the upcoming tour and revealed why his song Beautiful Soul remains so popular to this day.

The song hit Number One on the ARIA charts when it was released in 2004.

“I think timing had something to do with it as it had a very fresh sound,” McCartney said.

“It was a very earnest, sweet song. It didn’t offend anybody. Lyrically and melodically, I think it was a very catchy song.”

He explained that the song ‘marks a point in time’ for many fans who were teenagers in the mid-2000s.

McCartney will be performing at the So Pop Festival in Australia and New Zealand in 2020.

The Pussycat Dolls are set to headline the concert, which also features Smash Mouth, Steps, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Whigfield, Reel 2 Reel and Samantha Mumba.

The acts will be performing their biggest hits in Perth, Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne, before heading to New Zealand net April and May.

Tickets will be available to the public on Monday December 9.
