Nicki Minaj has defended her husband over carnival controversy.
While attending a carnival in Trinidad and Tobago, Kenneth Petty appeared to shove someone away from Minaj and now the rapper is urging bloggers to stop gossiping about him.
Minaj returned to her native home to ride a float at the carnival, wearing an elaborate blue and purple feathered costume.
She was joined by Petty at the street celebrations but he didn’t appear to be in a party mood and was seen pushing singer Iwer George’s arm away from Minaj in the middle of his performance after he tried to get her involved in his set on the float.
Video footage of the incident was posted on social media and fans encouraged Petty to “loosen up.”
On Wednesday, Minaj responded to one of the comments, saying she had not prepared him for the relaxed nature of the celebrations.
“He don’t understand anything about our culture. I apologize on his behalf. He’s always in security mode. All love. Love my country to death. Love my people to death. Period…,” she replied.
“I should’ve told him it’s a very comfortable family atmosphere. He’s never been to a carnival in his life…”
After defending him, she returned to Instagram the next day and said she was tired of the headlines about Petty’s behaviour.
She posted a photo of herself and Petty at the carnival with the caption, “He really don’t have social media to see ya’ll write think pieces about him chile…
“My husband be all over the blogs and he don’t even know it. No social media to see ya’ll talk about him more than ya’ll talk about these rappers dats out here doin the most for ya’ll attention…”
Minaj wed Petty, a registered sex offender who previously served time for manslaughter, in October last year.
