‘Lord of the Rings’ & ‘The Hobbit’ Movie Rights Up For Sale

'Lord of the Rings' & 'The Hobbit' Movie Rights For Sale

Big news for Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit fans. The franchise has been put up for sale!

The popular films, based on the world-renowned JRR Tolkien novels, are nearing a new era with the release of new Amazon Prime Video adaptation, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

According to a new Variety report, Saul Zaentz Co. has decided to sell its stake in Tolkien’s holdings, which includes many movie, merchandising, gaming, and live event rights connected to the Lord of the Rings property.

The sale of these rights is expected to take place this week, and Amazon is reportedly at the top of the list of “prime candidates” to acquire these rights. Along with its new TV series, this would expand its ownership of the Lord of the Rings franchise.

The decision to sell the franchise is expected to create a massive bidding war in Hollywood, with the company expected to receive at least $2 billion for each Tolkien property.

Who do you think will end up buying the rights to the Lord of the Rings franchise? Let us know by commenting below.
