Katy Perry has finally dropped new music, releasing her single Daisies, along with a new music video last Friday.
Daisies features the light and poppy sounds that first made Perry popular in the early 2000s.
However, the lyrics seem to come from a darker place than we have seen from Perry previously.
“I wrote some of it while I was clinically depressed and trying to find the light at the end of the tunnel,” she told Zane Lowe’s ‘New Music Daily’ show.
“… my soul sends a message to my intellect, to my head. It says, ‘You’re going to get through it. You’ve gotten through it before. And here’s a nugget of inspiration, how you’re going to do it.’ And it becomes a song…” she explained to Lowe.
Daisies is the first single off her upcoming fifth studio album.
Although the album remains untitled, Capitol Records has confirmed an August 14 release date.
Although this will be her first album since Witness in 2017, Perry did release a new song earlier this year.
Never Worn White came out this March, with Perry using the video to announce her pregnancy to partner Orlando Bloom.
The couple are expecting a baby girl within the next few months.
