Ghostbusters fans have been waiting for a sequel to the original for a long time, and now they finally have the trailer for it.
The first official trailer for the upcoming Ghostbusters movie dropped on Monday, giving fans their first look at what to expect from the Jason Reitman-directed sequel.
And it is clear from the beginning that there will be some differences between this film and its predecessors, not counting the 2016 reboot. The tone is significantly different, making this Ghostbusters seem like an adventure movie rather than a comedy; and the setting is in the rural US rather than New York City.
The trailer gives fans their first look at the cast, including Paul Rudd, Finn Wolfhard, Carrie Coon and McKenna Grace.
And of course, the most significant difference in Afterlife is that kids take centre stage. When a single mother moves her two kids to a “creepy old farmhouse” left to them by the family patriarch, the kids discover some very supernatural goings-on in the town, as well as some equipment that any Ghostbusters fan will recognise.
Most notably among the discovery is a beige jumpsuit with the name Spengler written on it. For those unfamiliar, Dr Egon Spengler was a founding member of the original Ghostbusters team, played by the late Harold Ramis.
As it was revealed previously that this film would follow the descendants of the original team, it seems that the kids in this sequel are related to Dr Spengler. And while the kids don’t seem to have much knowledge of what they’re dealing with, their ghost-obsessed teacher, played by Rudd, seems all too happy to educate them.
Jason Reitman announced that he would direct the sequel, taking the mantle from his father Ivan, who famously directed the original two films.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife is currently scheduled for release on July 10, 2020.
