Superstar singer and gay icon Cher will reportedly headline the 2018 Sydney Mardi Gras.

Sources have said that the 71-year-old music legend is almost a lock in to perform at the 40th anniversary of the event next March.

Rumours began earlier this month when Cher mysteriously tweeted, “Where am I going in  March?”

It follows a tweet she published in May, which said she is “hoping” to tour Australia and New Zealand in 2018.

Event organisers previously stated that booking Cher was “plan A.”

Previous performers include George Michael, Tina Arena, Boy George and Cyndi Lauper who appeared the 30th anniversary.

Cher last toured Australia in 2005 to support her Living Proof The Farewell Tour run.

The 2018 Sydney Mardi Gras will take place on March 3.
