The bond between internationally renowned musician, Bruce Springsteen, and the former President of the United States of America, Barack Obama, has always been easy to spot.
Springsteen has been close friends with Obama since 2008, performing at his Presidential rallies in 2008 and 2012, as well giving White House staffers an intimate concert as they prepared to leave office in 2017.
Fast forward to February 2021 and the iconic duo has once again cemented their friendship with the Spotify exclusive podcast, Renegades.
The podcast was an opportunity for Springsteen and Obama to discuss their love for music, their lives, similarities in their respective careers and their love for the USA.
The podcast spawned eight episodes:
- Our Unlikely Friendship
- Race in the United States
- American Music
- Travelling the US and Finding Home
- Money and the American Dream
- Relationships with our Fathers and Masculinity
- Looking Forward to American Renewal
Coming off the success of the podcast, the pair have set a date for the release of a co-authored book titled, Renegades: Born in the U.S.A.
The book will be an oversized, fully illustrated feature, utilising never-before-seen photographs of the pair, as well archival footage of Springsteen’s handwritten lyrics and Obama’s annotated speeches.
The book will be a candid conversation, similar to that of their Spotify Podcast, and will also be eight chapters.
The eight chapters include:
- Our Unlikely friendship
- The American story
- Amazing Grace
- American Skin
- The Almighty Dollar
- Wrestling with Ghosts
- A Fearless Love
- The Rising
“In our own ways, Bruce and I have been on parallel journeys trying to understand this country that’s given us both so much,” writes Obama in the book’s introduction.
“Trying to chronicle the stories of its people. Looking for a way to connect our own individual searches for meaning and truth and community with the larger story of America.”
Renegades: Born in the USA will be available globally on October 26, and will include 320 pages between two of the world’s greatest minds.
