Australian TV Legend Bert Newton Dies At 83

Legendary TV and radio host Bert Newton has unfortunately passed away at the age of 83.

Newton had his leg amputated in May after an infection in his toe, and had since been battling surgical complications.

He also underwent a quadruple heart bypass surgery in 2012, and suffered through several bouts of pneumonia over the last few years.

Bert Newton was a Logie Hall of Fame inductee, quadruple Gold Logie-winning entertainer and a radio, theatre and TV personality and presenter.

He first appeared on radio at the young age of 14 and at the age of 20, he joined 9News in its Melbourne bureau.

Newton also had the privilege of hosting The Logies 19 times in his lifetime.

Newton is survived by his wife Patti and their children Lauren and Matthew, and extended family.
