Australia’s Return to Eurovision 2016

EurovisionFollowing the overwhelming response from audiences and producers of the Eurovision song contest in 2015, Australia has once again officially been announced as a contestant in the widely renowned Eurovision.

While Australia’s involvement in the contest in 2015 was meant to be a one-time-only event, Guy Sebastian has guaranteed us a place in the show in 2016 by blowing away the European judges and audiences with his track Tonight Again. Having finished fifth in the contest, Guy has shown that Eurovision no longer belongs solely to the Europeans.

Although Australia is yet to be given a permanent spot in the competition, Executive Supervisor of Eurovision, Jon Ola Sand has stated that there is “potential [for Eurovision] to evolve organically into a truly global event” with Australia’s participation as the first step in that direction.

Since Australia was automatically placed into the final earlier this year, we will need to up our game next year in Stockholm if we hope to ensure ourselves with permanency in the competition.

The question then falls to who will be Australia’s next Eurovision contestant? The officials in charge will need to make the harrowing decision of do we try to match the obscurities of Finland, resonate with the elegance and power of Sweden or provide our own uniquely Australian sound to become the next Eurovision winners?

The Australian entrant in 2016 is set to be announced in the new year. Who do you think should represent Australia in Eurovision? Comment below.

  1. We have many good acts, but I think Dami I’m is one of our best, she is new, fresh, amazing vocals and gorgeous.
She also knows wht it takes to perform in a show like this having performed on many international events in recent Months.
This month she performed in front of an Audience of 200 million plus in the BTV gala event in China.
