Aubrey Plaza Reveals She Got Hitched

Aubrey Plaza and Jeff Baena

Actress Aubrey Plaza subtly announced she got married to her long-time beau director Jeff Baena in an Instagram post promoting an upcoming movie.

While announcing their next movie Spin Me Around, Plaza referred to Baena as her husband. Her reps later confirmed the couple’s nuptials with People magazine, but there are no details on when the pair actually got hitched.

“So proud of my darling husband @jeffbaena for dreaming up another film that takes us to italia to cause some more trouble,” wrote Plaza on Instagram.

The couple began dating in 2011 and have made several films together including Baena’s directorial debut Life After Beth in 2013, in which Plaza starred.

At the time, the actress was best known for her role on Parks and Recreation but has now cemented her fame in indie comedies.

Plaza will make her own directorial debut with the anthology Cinema Toast, which Baena created. Baena told IndieWire that he had joked about doing something similar to Woody Allen’s debut feature – 1966’s What’s Up, Tiger Lily,by taking existing films in the public domain and altering them.

In the episode Plaza directed, Quiet Illness, she transformed several movie and television clips starring Loretta Young into a psychological thriller about a woman and her manipulative husband.

The newlyweds have also collaborated on the films Joshy and The Little Hours, however, the creative duo is often intertwined with Plaza’s fellow NBC Thursday night comedy block veteran Alison Brie.

Brie, who is coming off the Netflix series Glow and most recently starred in the Oscar nominated Promising Young Woman, even co-wrote the script with Baena for their latest project Spin Me Around and will co-star as well.

According to Deadline, Brie plays the manager of Bakersfield, a fictional California franchise of the Italian restaurant chain “Tuscan Grove.”

She wins a trip to the company’s cooking school or “institute” outside of Florence, Italy, and the chance to meet the restaurant chain’s wealthy and charismatic owner. But “finds a far different adventure than the romantic fantasy she had imagined.”

Production is set to begin on the comedy flick next month in Italy.
