Alec Baldwin has given his first sit down interview with ABC News anchor, George Stephanopoulos, since the fatal shooting of up-and-coming cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins, on the set of American Western drama, Rust.

Rumours of alleged sabotage made the rounds on the internet following the immediate aftermath of the incident. However, Baldwin was adamant that sabotage was not at play.

Baldwin sat with Stephanopoulos in the tell-all interview and described what that day on 21 October, 2021 was really like.

Baldwin spoke about how the day began with him feeling a renewed sense of appreciation for the art of cinema, as he wrote the story and is executive producing/staring in the western drama. Baldwin once again felt like he was making a project where the magic of cinema felt within reach.

“I sat on the bench, and I said, ‘this movie has made me love making movies again,’” said Baldwin.

Baldwin then went on to state that he felt that Rust could possibly be an important genre defining film and breath new life into his career.

“I really thought we were onto something…then the gun goes off,” said Baldwin.

The gun was of course the antique Colt .45 revolver that was being used during rehearsals, which discharged a live bullet, killing Halyna Hutchins and wounding the director of the film, Joel Souza.

Baldwin went on to explain that a live bullet was placed in the gun and he was not sure who was responsible, but was not pointing fingers.

“Someone put a live bullet in a gun, a bullet that wasn’t even supposed to be on the property,” Baldwin said.

He went on to defend his part in the death of Hutchins.

“Someone is ?responsible for what happened, and I can’t say who that is, but I know it’s not me,” said Baldwin.

Baldwin allegedly also stated that his career of over 40 years as an actor may be over, however, he does not care.

Baldwin may also be facing criminal charges pending the completion of the investigation by the New Mexico police, according to district attorney, Mary Carmack-Atlwies. Hutchins’ family however has been in contact with Baldwin and were pictured leaving breakfast with the SNL star following the death of Hutchins.

The sit-down interview with ABC anchor, George Stephanopoulos, Alec Baldwin Unscripted, is set to air in Australia at 12pm this Friday on ABC.
