ABBA Reunite to Open Restaurant in Stockholm

ABBAFor the first time since 2008, the four members of Swedish pop band ABBA came together to open a new restaurant in Stockholm on Wednesday.

Mamma Mia! The Party, as the restaurant is named, is based on the Greek tavern in the musical Mamma Mia. Alongside Mediterranean food, the venue offers entertainment such as daredevil stunts, Greek Gods and flirty waiters.

When questioned, Benny Andersson, part one of the ABBA quartet, didn’t believe that the group would get back on stage together with fellow composer Bjorn Ulvaeus, stating that they were “there to party.”

Fronted by the pair’s then wives, Agnetha Faltskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad, the band split in 1982 after both spouses divorced – prompting the release of pop favourite “The Winner Takes it All.”

Since the split, ABBA has had a successful afterlife with their ABBA Gold album, released in 1992, being the second-highest selling album of all time in the UK. Also, the Broadway hit Mamma Mia, which features many of the band’s top songs, has grossed over $2 billion since its debut in 1999.
