Singer Sannia Lists Her 7 Favourite Songs of 2019

Singer-songwriter Sannia has released not one, but two magnificent new singles; Daylight and Better!

Sannia stopped by Rave It Up HQ to celebrate this news with us and wanted to share with you all her 7 Favourite Songs of 2019.

  1. Leave Fast – Sam Fender

I heard this song for the first time three days ago and I haven’t been able to stop singing it. I love how it says so much so simply. The imagery of this song is laid out so well, and Sam’s voice over that chorus melody is heart-breaking. Special mention to another track on Sam’s latest album called White Privilege, which I think might be one of the most loaded and controversial songs of the year. I love that this guy is absolutely unafraid of speaking his mind, and he does it beautifully.

2. Please You – Montaigne
As soon as this song started, I was hooked by the production. The sound of the col legno strings and then this sweeping melody is immediately paired with a distorted guitar. The production on this album is ridiculous, not to mention Montaigne’s voice is limitless. The last song on the album – Ready – is also spectacular.

3. Soon – Angie McMahon

I remember sitting in traffic listening to this on the radio for the first time and being just as awestruck as when Angie released Slow Mover. This one just crawled right into my heart instantly. Her vocal delivery is so real and raw and it’s such a beautiful song lyrically. Maybe because at this time in my life, I can really relate to it or maybe because it’s so honest and personal to Angie herself, either way I’m in love with it.

4. Final Form – Sampa the Great

It’s go time. No matter what time of day, whenever those horns kick in, I feel like a Queen, most likely because I’m listening to one. ‘Bone of my bone, flesh of my flesh, greatness in me you can’t make me feel less’ is one of the best verses I’ve heard in a while. Black power, louder!

5. Shaking My Hips – Eliott

I love this girl, as a musician and as a person and this has been one of my favourite of her songs for a long time. Eliott’s got one of the most beautiful voices in this country, and a never-ending range. Every time she sings “a very good chance” in that chorus, I get shivers. What I love about her songs are that they’re so personal. She tells us her story and we’re all taken in to her world by invitation and it’s almost hard to leave.

6. Between You And I – Kita Alexander

This song feels like a beautiful blend of the guitar from Tears for Fears’ Everybody Wants To Rule the World and Eaglemont’s gorgeous voice. This is my go to road trip song at the moment. I love the production! Kita’s tone and the ‘human nature’ hook towards the end. On repeat.

7. Season’s Greetings – Stella Donnelly

Every time I hear Stella sing, I’ve either got a smile from ear to ear or I’m holding back a world of emotions. I quite literally laughed out loud the first time I heard this. I think everyone’s experienced a dysfunctional family Christmas and Stella sums it up perfectly with her writing here and trademark Aussie timbre, complete with jinglebells for added ambience.
