State Of Origin: Game 1 Review

Game 1 of the State Of Origin series was a hard and tough low scoring affair. Queensland went into the game as favourites, despite the game being played in NSW.

A penalty to Queensland in the early stages of the game gifted them a 2 point lead. The Blues later hit back with Boyd Cordner crashing over for a try. The conversion by Adam Reynolds was unsuccessful, leaving the score 4-2. In the final minutes of the first half, Dane Gagai crossed over the line for Queensland. A missed conversion left the score at half time 6-4 to Queensland.

In the second half, the Blues dominated but couldn’t find the points. The score finishing up 6-4 meaning Queensland go one up in the series. The game may have disappointed viewers with the low scores and lack of “entertainment.”

Game 2 is set to be played in Queensland’s backyard, giving QLD the perfect opportunity to steal the series. It will be a massive challenge for the Blues, not only to beat QLD but to defeat them in their home stadium in front of the rowdy QLD crowd. The last time NSW played in QLD, they got 50 points piled on top of them! Can the Blues keep the series alive?

In the lead up to game 2, Blues coach Laurie Daley has called for both referees to be stood down for the rest of the series after several key decisions in the second half went against the Blues.

Game 2 will be played at Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane on June 22.
