Bad Neighbours 2: Sorority Rising

The hilarious Seth Rogen, Zac Efron and Rose Byrne are back in Bad Neighbours 2, and this time Chloe Grace Moretz is their enemy!

Mac Radner (played by Seth Rogen) and pregnant wife Kelly (played by Rose Byrne) have a lovely peaceful life until the sisters of Kappa Nu move in next door. To shut down the sorority and gain the peace back to the neighbourhood, the couple turn to their former neighbour Teddy Sanders (played by Zac Efron) for help.

I must say, this film is much better than the first one. From the look at the trailer, I thought it wasn’t going to be any different, apart from the fact that it was a sorority and not a frat house. I was right, but it was done in a better way.

At first, Teddy helps the girls start their sorority but later on in the movie, team up with Mac and Kelly to shut the sorority down.

Bad Neighbours 2: Sorority Rising

I still classify this film (and the first one) as ‘stupid’ funny. It is filled with sexual references and is definitely not suitable for children, but I was already laughing my head off only 10 minutes in.

Zac Efron is still as hot as ever in this movie. We of course get to see him shirtless again but this time, we get a little extra. Ladies, he does a dance! Looks like you might have some competition Channing Tatum. Zac could be the next Magic Mike star. If you don’t want to see the movie for its storyline, at least see it for this sexy dance.

I haven’t watched a lot of movies featuring Chloe Grace Moretz so I didn’t know what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. I think she did a great job. At times, I didn’t think her character had a heart and all she wanted to do was party and smoke weed, but she seems to grow up and have some more emotions near the end (I don’t want to ruin it for you though by sharing the ending). A continuous theme throughout though is the importance of sisterhood and brotherhood. It really makes you have an appreciation for your own group of friends.

Selena Gomez also made an appearance. She is still so beautiful but unfortunately played a really ditsy sorority girl. I absolutely love Selena Gomez but I am actually glad she didn’t have a huge role in this film. I think Selena is suited to more serious roles. Watching her play a ditsy sorority girl in this movie reminded me Ariana Grande in Victorious. It unfortunately gets annoying. You can only take so much ‘ditsyness.’

Bad Neighbours 2: Sorority Rising

There is one scene in this movie that was a real standout for me. When Mac, Kelly and Teddy plan to steal the sorority girls’ stash of weed, they use disguises to try and fit in. They are absolutely hilarious though. From a cheerleader, a clown to drawn on abs and arm muscles, and Teddy was his usual hot shirtless self.

Bad Neighbours 2: Sorority Rising

Overall, I think this film has a good storyline (well better than the first one anyway) in terms of the plans they execute to take down the sorority. If you are a teenager or an adult with a great sense of humour (or at least a sexual sense of humour), have a fun night out and go watch this movie.

Positives:

  • Better than the first film
  • Already makes you laugh 5-10 minutes in
  • The characters execute some great plans to take down the sorority
  • Zac Efron shirtless (enough said!)
  • Shows the importance of sisterhood and brotherhood

Negatives:

  • ‘Stupid’ funny
  • So many sexual references
  • Bad language throughout
  • The very first scene is a sex scene
  • Very stereotypical college behaviour
  • Selena Gomez unfortunately plays a very ditsy character

Rating: 6/10
