State of Origin – 10th Series Lost. Is It Time For Change?

State of Origin

State of Origin

On Wednesday June 22, the NSW Blues were playing to keep the Origin series alive. It was always going to be a tough game playing in Queensland’s backyard (Suncorp Stadium), however the Blues just couldn’t cope with the class of senior players such as Johnathan Thurston, Cooper Cronk and Cameron Smith. The final score in the match was 26-16 and the Maroons won yet another Origin series.

In saying all of this, I believe there must be a time for change in amongst the Blues team. The NSW Blues have only won 1 out of their past 11 series. Year after year, the same players have been picked yet the result is still the same, even with expectation that things will change.

A new breed of NSW players such as Bryce Cartwright, James Tedesco and Jack Bird need to be introduced to the Origin arena. We need to start developing fresh new, young players and begin to expose them to the level of Origin football.

A policy of player loyalty obviously hasn’t worked and the NSW fans have had enough! Key opinion leaders such as Phil Gould and Steve Mortimer have reportedly spoken out and are also calling for an immediate change.
