Hold on to your flipping wands everyone because Harry Potter & The Cursed Child is coming to Australia!
The record-breaking play isn’t set to arrive in Melbourne until 2019 but time flies when you have a magical broom, am I right?
Producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender have commented that they had an objective of ensuring the production arrived to Australia “as soon as logistically possible.”
“You can’t ever assume a new play is going to have a further life, but we knew that if Harry Potter and the Cursed Child did have a life beyond London and Broadway, that the next stop would be here.”
The play opened to rave reviews in London’s West End, which is absolutely no surprise, but if you’ve been living under a rock (or stuck in Muggle world) and don’t know much about the magical musical, have a read of this: It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children. While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.
What a day to be an Aussie Potterhead! Although they’ve announced Melbourne as their only destination, let’s not give up hope! We’ve got two years before the wizarding world comes to our shores so brew up some Felix Felicis potion and hope Harry Potter & the Cursed Child makes its way to other Aussie cities as well! (If not, get saving, get booking and hope not all of the hotels around Melbourne get booked out in advance)
Let us know which city you’d love the musical to come to in the comments below!
