The Winner of 2018’s Eurovision

Netta Barzilai Winning 2018's Eurovision

Eurovision 2018 is all sung out and the winner is….Israeli singer Netta Barzilai. Our Jessica Mauboy placed 20th though.

Mauboy performed a note rendition of her song We Got Love, while Barzilai performed the crowd-favourite Toy. She won the annual crown throwing off 42 other countries (including Australia).

Mauboy was quoted saying, “this has become one of the greatest moments of joy and pride in my life – I loved every minute and felt the support of Australia every step of the way.”

It wasn’t all good picking though. 2017 winner, Salvador Sobral from Portugal, criticised Israel’s performance as ‘horrible music’.

During Toy, Barzilai makes clucking noises like a chicken, uses a looping machine and a synthesizer, as well as having lyrics that are barely understood.

In the top three, Israel (as we know already) came first, Eleni Foureira from Cyprus came in a close second with her song Fuego, and Cesar Sampson of Austria came in third with Nobody But You (which he performed in English. That is amazing!)

This is the fourth win for Israel since the contest began in 1973.
