Real-Life Train Derailment Finally Removed From Netflix’s ‘Bird Box’

Bird Box

The footage of a real-life train disaster that struck Lac-Megantic, Canada in 2013 and killed 47 people has finally been edited out of Netflix Original Film Bird Box.

Used early on in the film as a news report of a fictional event, it immediately drew the ire of the local residence and was amplified by other online supporters who voiced themselves on social media. Over 3,000 of which signed a Change.org petition to have the alteration be made to the final cut.

Netflix has finally made the alteration almost 2 months after the outcry.

“Netflix and the filmmakers of Bird Box have decided to replace the clip,” the company spoke in their official statement.

“We’re sorry for any pain caused to the Lac-Mégantic community.”

Regardless of the outrage, Bird Box has done very well for Netflix, which according to the company had 45 million accounts watch it in the first week.
