On July 23, 2010 at 8:22pm, the world’s biggest boyband One Direction was formed on UK’s The X-Factor.
Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik were just five ordinary boys from small towns in England auditioning for a talent show, not knowing that they would one day be the next big thing.
The One Direction Twitter account came back to life tweeting 1D lyrics every hour. Some of the songs Tweeted were: History, Infinity, Little Things, You & I, Perfect, Steal My Girl, Night Changes, Live While We’re Young, Kiss You, Stockholm Syndrome, Story of My Life, What Make You Beautiful, 18, Half A Heart, No Control, Drag Me Down, Best Song Ever, They Don’t Know About Us, One Thing, If I Could Fly, Where Do Broken Hearts Go, Gotta Be You, Midnight Memories and More Than This.
Fans assumed that at the 8th hour, the band might release their music video for their song Infinity, which was shot back in 2015 and fans were disappointed when it didn’t happen.
Three out of the five boys took to Twitter thanking their fans for all the support.
Fans are still waiting for Harry Styles and Zayn Malik to Tweet about the 1D anniversary.
Fans still remember their debut as a band on UK’s The X-Factor in 2010, where they performed Torn by Natalie Imbruglia, to their last performance where they performed their single History.
The group have released five albums and have had four massive world tours. In 2015, Zayn Malik left the group releasing a statement saying, “I am leaving because I want to be a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight.”
In 2015, the band announced that they were going on a hiatus after 5 long years of making music and touring. They also promised fans that they would be back in the future as they haven’t toured their last album Made in the A.M.
One Direction released their debut album Up All Night in 2011 featuring their hit singles What Makes You Beautiful, One Thing and Gotta Be You. They then released their second album Take Me Home in 2012 and their third album Midnight Memories in 2013.
They released their fourth album Four in 2014, which was their last album as a five piece as Zayn Malik left the group in March 2015.
Their last album Made in the A.M was released in 2015 and it was their first album as a four piece.
So what is life like now after One Direction?
All five members are currently doing solo work. Zayn, Harry and Niall have solo albums out while Liam and Louis are currently working on theirs.
Each of the boys have also gone down a different route genre-wise. Harry’s genre is Brit-pop and soft-rock, Niall’s genre is Folk, Liam’s is Hip-hop, Louis’ is Electronic Music (House) and Zayn’s genre is R&B. Very different from the sound of One Direction.
